Introduction

Critical Rationalism is a method, or process, or heuristic for the growth of knowledge. The most influential modern analyst and advocate of Critical Rationalism was the late Sir Karl Popper. Popper argued that Critical Rationalism--or the method of Conjecture and Refutation--is at the heart of all processes of knowledge growth.

The Critical Rationalist (TCR) is a scholarly academic journal, with peer review, founded to facilitate the application, elaboration, and criticism of Popperian philosophy in general, and of Critical Rationalism in particular. TCR strives to examine Popper's own philosophy in a critical light, to explore new applications of his philosophy, and to make this accessible to academics and the general public alike. While encouraging articles on the application of Popper's work, we also make a point of inviting critics to contribute, a policy which is both more productive and entertaining. In addition to independent contributions, TCR carries articles presented at the Annual Conference on the Philosophy of Sir Karl Popper . TCR supports and solicits the ongoing submission of Critical Commentary--so-called Scholarly Skywriting (Harnad, 1990)--relating to all target articles.

TCR is disseminated electronically in a variety of presentation formats, including both Postscript (for local printing to paper) and HTML (for interactive, hypertext viewing, via the World Wide Web or otherwise). Electronic dissemination permits a flexible publication schedule: articles are published as soon as possible after final acceptance. Accordingly, each TCR issue normally contains a single article.

TCR is a service of The Karl Popper Web . There is currently no charge for access to TCR.
